From President Karen Adams-Griggs This year I have the honor of representing Capital Lakefair as the 2023 President. I look forward to celebrating our community with this year's theme "Rooted in Tradition." I grew up in the Olympia area, and have been a part of Lakefair my entire life. It has always been an annual tradition that we as a family look forward to every summer. We had our spot planned in advance, in front of the Brown Derby restaurant, and we would watch the bed races and really look forward to the Grand Parade. My dad had his favorite vendors along food row and it was a wonderful social time for all of us. The fireworks show was the perfect way to end our annual family tradition, sitting on blankets overlooking the Capital. The Capitalarians look forward to celebrating Lakefair traditions and hopefully bringing forward new traditions to you and your family. Did you know that Capital Lakefair started as a community event 66 years ago, to celebrate the waterfront and bring people to downtown businesses? The first celebration took place in 1957 with the "Lady of the Lake" who rode on a trailered boat in the Grand Parade. It has grown over the last 6 decades to what it is today, a place for families and friends to come together for some food, carnival rides, an incredible parade, and live entertainment among other events. Capital Lakefair would not be what it is today without the ongoing support of our community and local businesses. I would like to personally invite everyone to come to help us celebrate 66 years of Lakefair, July 12-16, 2023. To register for the event – Please complete the Capital Lakefair Hospitality Registration Form and submit payment to the Capital Lakefair organization. Hospitality Hotel Olympia Hotel at Capitol Lake 2300 Evergreen Parkway Drive 800-327-0200 Local: 360- 943-4000 Room Rates $115.00 Plus tax. For a discount, use the code " CLO " for your reservation. |
